Fluo is a certified B Corp™!

August 13, 2025

We’re officially a certified B Corp, meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

After what’s proving to be an enriching and educational journey, we’re excited to announce our B Corp certification. We’re part of a growing global community of 9,700+ organisations that are transforming business for the benefit of all people, communities, and the shared planet we call home.

What is a B Corp, exactly?

B Lab™ is the non-profit behind the B Corp movement.

B Corps meet B Lab’s rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. B Lab UK’s purpose is to redefine what success looks like by building a community of engaged businesses, raising awareness of the B Corp movement, and influencing change in the UK economy.

In a nutshell, it’s about looking beyond just profit and shareholder value.

And we’re in good company!

In the UK, the B Corp movement is one of the fastest growing. Over 2,500 companies across a range of sectors have been certified to date, including big names like The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, and Tony’s Chocolonely.

Putting people and the planet first

You could say our own journey to becoming a certified B Corp began in 2014, when our founder Marco Strillozzi started the company.

‘I wanted it to be better than the places I had worked before. I wanted it to be ethical, fair, and fun. Not only focused on profits, but also primarily on people’, he explains.

Marco met some B Corps in 2018, and that’s when he realised B Lab’s comprehensive framework could help Fluo – then called Strillobyte – work towards its founding vision. Yet the company’s small size and lack of experience meant some of the requirements were too challenging to implement at the time.

Becoming a certified B Corp remained a central ambition though. ‘I knew that it was one of the best ways to tell the world, “we are different, we care!” and to connect with other people and organisations going through the same journey,’ says Marco.

‘Today, it provides customers, employees, and suppliers with the confidence that we are a business that puts people and the planet at the core of everything we do.’

Becoming a certified B Corp

The process of getting B Corp certification is rigorous and comprehensive, but highly rewarding. To become a B Corp, B Lab measures your social and environmental performance – everything from input materials, to charitable giving, to employee benefits. It’s not just about you: they also measure your supply chain.

There are 7 main steps to becoming certified:

  1. Eligibility
  2. Pricing
  3. The B Impact Assessment
  4. B Corp Legal Requirements
  5. The review process
  6. Reporting your impact
  7. Joining the community

If you’re thinking about gaining certification, you might find – like us – you’re already meeting some of the criteria. For example, we have a diverse workforce, support hybrid work and flexible working hours, and are mindful of our carbon footprint.

Things we’ve implemented include amending our articles of association, and establishing more formal policies.

‘We’ve also established a new Advisory Board to help us incorporate more diverse perspectives into the company’s strategy. So we now have a solid framework of policies and practices to support us in remaining ethical as we grow, Marco adds.

The time it takes to become certified varies from organisation to organisation.

We started preparing in September 2024, submitted our application in November 2024, and became officially certified in June 2025.

Growing together

One of the best things about our journey to becoming a B Corp is that it’s brought the whole team together, allowing everyone to understand and really get behind the same goal: creating a world where we can all thrive.

Of course, there’s still so much we can do better, and as our collective understanding of social and environmental accountability evolves, so do B Lab’s standards for certification (we’re looking forward to aligning with B Lab’s latest standards in the coming months).

But for now, how does it feel to finally be B Corp certified?

‘It’s a huge achievement, not only because of the effort that went into it, but because it had been on our vision board for so many years,’ says Marco. ‘To have finally earned that badge is a great source of pride, and it feels like we are officially on the path that we envisaged at the start, over 10 years ago!’
